Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

The two-day training is an intensive course in which various topics are covered in depth.

Subtopics GD&T training

Our two-day training offers an in-depth exploration of various topics, directly linking theory to practice.

The following subtopics are covered during this training.

[ALS] modifier

The [ALS] modifier on references makes it possible to unambiguously define a line segment as a datum. This application is mainly used as an alternative method for tolerating cylindricity at larger diameters. The [ALS] modifier is omitted for parallelism with the Intersection Plane Indicator to determine parallelism between line segments. In combination with roundness, this also provides control over cylindricity.

Pattern tolerance

In this example, a position tolerance on this pattern determines three functions: the orientation relative to datum A, the position of the pattern relative to datum B and the orientation of the pattern relative to datum D. In addition, the distance between the holes is also determined.

With that second position tolerance, the orientation to datum A and the distance between the six holes are refined.

New default single datum association criterion

To reduced the variation due to the border effects of the datum feature to establish a single datum, the association criterion has been modified from minimax with external material constraint to least squares with external material constraint in the new ISO 5459-2024.

Certainly, the ISO standards have expanded considerably in recent years, especially with regard to measurement. Each customer has its own specific applications.

The best way to understand GD&T is to link theory to practice. This will give participants a better feel for the subject.

The standard two-day training is intensive, with customer drawings as a common thread. To work more specifically, a follow-up day is recommended. This gives participants time to look for examples and let everything sink in.
